Dr. Watson had known and worked with Sherlock Holmes for almost four years when he first met Arthur Conan Doyle – ACD he always calls him. As Watson, he was a doctor and tey quickly became good friends. Watson often talked to him about Sherlock Holmes. At that time only the police and some criminals knew what a great detective he was. ACD was never too tired to hear about another of Holmes’s cases. ACD had a special interest in Holmes. Because he wanted to be a writer and write about Holmes, using the facts of a real case, but adding his own ideas to the story. Watson explained the plan to Holmes. He listened but didn’t like it very much because he thought ACD can’t understand the difference between facts and lies. At least he let him to write a story. ACD wrote a story called A Study in Scarlet. When it appeared in the shops, Watson bought and read it. The story was excellent but Holmes didn’t like it because Holmes thought that ACD has been careless with the facts and added all kinds of unnecessary lies. Sherlock Holmes became a detective in 1877, four years before Watson met him. At first he enjoyed every case, but soon he began to find the work easy. Ten years later he was famous, but he was unhappy and bored. He thought modern criminal is so painfully slow and stupid. He needed an interesting case and he wanted to think again. Dr. Watson
